US — . A feud that had broken out on Twitter weeks before took a violent turn on July 8, 2020 as Alicia Strada (pseudonym) of Philadelphia was jumped by three women at her home.
Alicia is still new to radical feminism, and had only recently begun to question the notion that anyone can actually change their biological sex. She says her concerns were only exacerbated when a former personal friend, Emanuel “Manny” Pabon, began trying to force Alicia to alter her language to suit his delusion that he be seen by her as an actual woman. Alicia refused.
According to Alicia, Demi Hart, Shani Monique, and Dyandra Harrison decided that they must defend the honor of Mr Pabon, who tried to initiate an actual brawl with Alicia over this dispute, saying, “All you do is make tweets sprinkled with transphobia.” Alicia says she refused to take part in a physical fight with him, and so Manny urged on the female allies to do his bidding.
After stalking her, the three women – all known personally to Alicia as former friends – hit her in the face, and her nostril ring was ripped out, she says. It was only due to the intervention of Alicia’s family members that more damage was not done to her body.
The incident was reported in a series of tweets by trans allies who demonstrated delight in the attack on Alicia. Unlike the more common reports of assaults on anyone who refuses to engage in the delusions of men who claim to be women, all parties in this particular incident are Black.
As Alicia states, “Black trans women were claiming cis Black women were jealous of them and they [Black trans women] were the blueprint for womanhood and femininity.” Alicia also described her outrage at the racism being thrown at her, with tweets using age-old tropes that denigrated the physical characteristics of Black women.
Invoking race has been common with transgender activists since they began pushing to be recognized as a legitimate ‘civil rights movement’. Alicia says she became especially bothered by the articles she has read and tweets she has seen that compare black women to men. It is this very offensive approach that caused her to turn her back on trans activism, and sent her on her journey to becoming critical of gender altogether.
Despite being physically attacked, Alicia is refusing to back down. This experience shines a light on the intensifying factions that have been created in larger social justice activism, which is evident in the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization itself. As we can see from their website, BLM is locked into a contradiction similar to that of other progressive organizations. BLM’s MISSION statement reads:
We make space for transgender brothers and sisters to participate and lead.
We are self-reflexive and do the work required to dismantle cisgender privilege and uplift Black trans folk, especially Black trans women who continue to be disproportionately impacted by trans-antagonistic violence.
We build a space that affirms Black women and is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered.
It is specifically because these organizations refuse to acknowledge that ‘trans women’ are actually MEN that this cycle of deflection will continue to haunt others like Alicia who refuse to comply with their rhetoric. Would BLM accept Alicia and her ‘cis privilege’ as a member?
This kind of message from an organization that wants to be perceived as having the backs of Black women is merely parroting the misogyny that began appearing most strongly in 2019 popular culture. Blaming Black women for…well, simply everything seemed to become almost mandatory in order to score ‘TERF’ points in the eyes of trans activists. Laverne Cox famously blamed Black ‘cis’ women for Black straight men not wanting to date ‘trans women’. It was ugly then, and yet it is an attitude that seems to have sunken deeply into the psyches of young Black women who envision themselves as some type of handmaidens to their #MostOppressed brother-sisters. This all resembles the character of Chris in the film, Get Out: As his eyes roll back in his head and he is being brainwashed, he indeed slips into ‘The Sunken Place’. This is exactly where we have landed now in 2020, where we are all being forced to try and live in The Sunken Place.
This attack on Alicia has become an on-going legal case at present, but one more survivor has become radicalized even further to stand strong in this fight against an ideology that oppresses us all.
