UK — England. Following on from the success of My Body Is Me!, Rachel Rooney’s beautiful book for 3-6 year olds, publisher Transgender Trend is planning new resources, this time aimed at older tweens and teens.
It aims to counter harmful gender stereotypes and the narrative that children can be born in the ‘wrong body’.
Rules on the use in English schools of materials for religious and sex education were changed in September 2020 with concerns being voiced over the content of some resources provided by lobby groups such as Mermaids and Allsorts.
In their Crowdfunder for the project, Transgender Trend writes:
In Education, there is much damage to undo. We will continue in our consultancy role with policy-makers to ensure that gender identity ideology is taken out of the classroom. We will also produce the alternative resources needed to replace the harmful material children have been exposed to in the classroom.
Transgender Trend, which has been a driving force in the movement to protect gender non-confirming children from irreversible medical interventions for more than five years, says its planned new resources will include materials accessible to autistic children.
Evidence was heard at the recent High Court ruling on the prescription of puberty-blocking drugs to children, that teenagers with autism or anorexia as well as those who had endured difficult childhoods were more likely to say they wanted to change sex.
Transgender Trend is seeking to raise £100,000 to commission artists and designers, develop and print new resources to be used in homes and schools worldwide.
Their #puttingitright Crowdfunder states: “We are working on exciting projects with brilliant artists and we can’t wait to show you!”
